Fleur McDonald has lived and worked on farms for much of her life. After growing up in the small town of Orroroo in South Australia, she went jillarooing, eventually co-owning an 8000-acre property in regional Western Australia. Fleur likes to write about strong women overcoming adversity, drawing inspiration from her own experiences in rural Australia. She is the best-selling author of Red Dust, Blue Skies, Purple Roads, Silver Clouds and Crimson Dawn. Her latest novel, Emerald Springs, is out now.

We chatted to Fleur about the best things in her life.

What is your favourite novel?

Oh my goodness! How on earth am I supposed to answer that? Thereís too many of them. So Iím going to cheat and say Ďany Michael Connelly novelí (actually my favouirte of his is The Poet). But Iím also a huge fan of any murder, detective novel.

The films your family enjoy Ö

My daughter and I love Mamma Mia. Weíve also just seen Mall Cops 2 and that was hilarious. I tried to watch Fault in Our Stars Ė I didnít get through it but Rochelle loved it.

My children and new partner, Garry. And the fact Iím the happiest Iíve been in about fifteen years!

How would you like to spend Motherís Day?

Iím going to be spending the first half of the day sitting in a radio studio as part of the Rotary Club of Esperance Bayís biggest fundraiser, The Radio Auction. Iíll be the data entry girl. In the afternoon, Iím not sure what Iíd like to do, but just so long as it includes my kids, Iíll be happy.
