Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land

On February 6, 2017

By Sophia Whitfield
Good Me Bad Me is Ali Landís debut novel. Land has a degree in Mental Health and spent a decade working as a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nurse in hospitals and schools in the UK and Australia. Her debut novel reflects her knowledge of mental health and its far-reaching effect on others.

The central character in Landís novel is teenager Annie. Her mother is a serial killer currently awaiting trial after Annie handed her in to police.

Annieís name is changed to Milly and she is sent to live with foster parents. The father is a psychologist who is sympathetic to Millyís situation but the family is far from functional.

Milly is sent to the same school as her popular foster sister Phoebe where she encounters significant bullying. Landís description of the girlís behaviour at school is both dark and disturbing. Millyís background is kept under wraps with only a few people being made aware of her true identity. In a new school she is still an outsider and in her foster home she has taken attention away from Phoebe, an only child.

With her motherís trial looming and Milly set to testify, it becomes increasingly difficult for her to leave behind her shocking background. She will always be her motherís daughter, the daughter of a serial killer.

Good Me Bad Me is a compelling psychological thriller. It can be ordered here in Australia and herein the UK.
