Helen Mirren's career spans stage, screen and television. She has won many awards for her powerful and versatile performances, including the Academy Award in 2007 for her performance in The Queen. Currently she can be seen in The Hundred-Foot Journey. Mirren continues to find terrific roles as she defies the Hollywood mould. We take a look back at a few of her films, from 1968 to 2014.
For one of her first film roles, Helen Mirren appeared as Hermia in this 1968 production of William Shakespeare’s debauched fairytale while acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company. This was one of many film adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays in which she was to appear, including later productions of Hamlet (1976), As You Like It (1978) and Royal Deceit, a 1994 retelling of Hamlet.
