The Wrong Girl by Laura Wilson

On September 25, 2015

By Sophia Whitfield

The Wrong Girl is a gripping mystery about the secrets and lies that can fracture a family.

Janice has lived a life of travel and over the years made herself a comfortable life. But decades earlier as a young unwed mother she was forced by her parents to give up her newborn baby for adoption.

Summoned to Norfolk after the death of her brother, Janice comes face to face with her daughter Suzie and granddaughter Molly who have, unknown to her, been living with her long lost brother Dan.

But Molly has a secret. Missing girl Phoebe Piper has fascinated her. In 2007, three-year-old Phoebe went missing on a family holiday. Despite massive publicity and a long investigation, no trace of her was ever found.

Molly looks just like the reimagined images of an older Phoebe. So much so that she is often stopped in the street. Having recently moved from London to Norfolk Molly is finding it hard to fit in. Her mother Suzie has no photographs of her when she was young. After she finds her Uncle Dan dead, she discovers the evidence she need to prove she is Phoebe.

Janice finds she has walked into a family barely holding it together. When Suzie rejects her, she attempts to befriend Molly. But then Molly goes missing just days after Janiceís arrival and the police launch an investigation. Danís death brings secrets to the surface and takes Janice back to her youthful days when she hung out with the local rock crowd. Suzieís father and her old flame are both still living close to her brotherís home.

As Janice becomes embroiled in the past she uncovers the truth behind the men she left behind.

A cracking read for the weekend. Buy the book here.
